Tulum's New Airport: 6 new flight routes set to impact tourism this winter

The Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport in Tulum has become a crucial pillar in the tourism infrastructure of southeastern Mexico. With a capacity for 32,000 annual operations and the ability to handle 5.5 million passengers, this airport is not only operating successfully but also promises to transform connectivity in the region.

Located on a vast 1,200-hectare site, the airport features a main runway of 3,700 meters and 13 boarding positions. Additionally, its connection to sections 5 and 6 of the Maya Train will further strengthen the transportation network in the region, making access to key destinations in the peninsula easier.

In parallel, the Maya Train Project, which started operations in December 2023, adds an extra dimension to transportation and tourism in the peninsula. This 1,525-kilometer intercity train connects five states and 41 municipalities, integrating major tourist and commercial destinations. This infrastructure not only promotes an increase in visitor flow but also boosts regional development and offers new investment opportunities.

New Routes for Tulum Airport set to start this winter 2024

Announced by Governor Mara Lezama, Tulum Airport will add 6 new flight routes for the upcoming winter vacation season. Of these, 5 will be international, raising the total to 11, while domestic routes will increase to 5. This growth is a clear reflection of the tourism success that has attracted more visitors, setting records for summer arrivals.

Currently, the Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport operates with 9 airlines, including 4 domestic and 5 international, with destinations in Mexico, the United States, and Canada. This airport, already the eighth busiest in the country for international traffic, is projected to continue growing and solidify its role as a key entry point to the Riviera Maya.

Among the new additions is Lufthansa, which will connect Tulum with Europe, and a new direct flight by Aeroméxico between Cancun and Miami, starting December 19. This expansion will further facilitate air connections and open new opportunities for tourism in the region.
